Drawing on its accumulated experience, NORI deploys its capabilities in the following business fields:

  • Consulting on energy conservation, environmental measures, refinery upgrades, and petrochemical processes and operations, as well as making proposals concerning related feasibility studies.
  • Economic and technology research and evaluation on hydrocarbon fuels (oil, petrochemical integration, natural gas and coal), biofuels and the environment.
  • Research on intellectual property concerning the petroleum and petrochemical industries.
  • Training on subjects of petroleum refining concern.

Consulting

Energy Conservation

We propose energy conservation measures in light of analyses of the energy intensity of the client's entire plants and investigation of the plants.
The scope of our activities includes investigation and analysis of the energy intensity of each item of equipment and benchmarking, while simulation is used in formulating proposals for improvement.

Environment

We make proposals corresponding to the specific needs of our clients concerning the environment, including those for volatile organic compound (VOC) recovery systems, life cycle assessment (LCA), alkali soil improvement, and flare gas reduction.

Petroleum and Petrochemical Processes

We provide technological support corresponding to our clients' needs for improvement of petroleum and petrochemical processes, including sulfidation reduction technology and catalyst selection for gasoline, light diesel oil and other petroleum products; hydrocracking technology; technology for increased production of aromatic products; high-severity fluid catalytic cracking technology; and technology for achieving "bottomless" refinery configurations.

Research

New fuels, biofuels

Regarding new alternative fuels, such as gas to liquids (GTL), biodiesel, bioethanol, and dimethyl ether (DME), we perform extensive research, covering manufacturing technologies, supply stability, and economic aspects, as well as systems, policies and taxation in the U.S., Europe and Asia.

Environment

We perform comprehensive research on the environment, covering refinery technologies for reduction of CO2 emissions implicated in global warming and other aspects of climate change, regulation of exhaust gas emissions from vehicles and vessels, technologies for control of emissions of air pollution from engines, and fuel properties.

Energy Economics

We perform specialized, in-depth research on various issues concerning petroleum, petrochemicals, natural gas, coal and other energy resources in order to help our clients achieve their objectives.

Intellectual Property

We provide patent services including technology trend surveys and prior-art search, which are indispensable for development of new products and technologies related to petroleum products, oil refining, petrochemical processes, non-conventional energy, and for entry into new fields.

Training

We promote and manage various training programs related to refining technology, quality control, energy conservation, safety management, environmental hazardous substance(EHS).
